A devastating fire broke out early this morning at Community Space Food Bank, accidentally started by an unhoused neighbor seeking warmth. While we’re grateful no one was injured, the fire destroyed our $8,000 commercial refrigerator and caused smoke and electrical damage throughout our space.
Even in the face of this emergency, we stayed open—continuing to serve over 200 individuals that very day with free meals, fresh produce, and community care.
As Los Angeles’ first Freeze-Dry Food Bank, we’re on a mission to end food waste and hunger—rescuing surplus food, preserving it through freeze-drying, and ensuring people have access to nutritious options regardless of income or housing status.
We operate without government funding. Our work is powered by volunteers and community support.
We’re now urgently asking for your help to:
Replace our destroyed $5,000 commercial refrigerator
Make necessary smoke and wiring repairs
Maintain safe food storage and daily operations
Keep our Freeze-Dry Center active and expanding
Your support today ensures we can keep feeding families, seniors, and unhoused neighbors—without interruption.
Please donate what you can, share our story, and help us bounce back stronger.
With heartfelt thanks,
