Hi I am a Community Health Worker (CHW) raising money to support the scientific research, education, employment and leadership development of multicultural Community Health Workers in California with the help of CHWs of all job titles and CHW allies.
Substantial attention is being focused on the CHW workforce as trusted members of the community, with cultural and linguistic skills needed to bridge the trust gap between the health services and communities; highlighted by the disparate impact of Covid 19. While a great deal of funding has been poured into supporting Covid response there are still many CHWs impacted by the very same social determinants of health as their clients in marginalized communities, working as volunteers or in very low paid jobs.
CHW are trusted members of the community because they live and work in the communities they serve and have similar life experiences. This not only makes them unique in their ability to reach hard to reach communities with health information and services, but enables them to listen deeply to community strengths and needs bringing that community wisdom back to policy and program decision makers.
State level CHW associations in other states have given CHWs a collective voice and a great boost to professional recognition in those states.
Thank you for helping us build a multicultural California Association of Community Health Workers in California. With your help we hope to have our nonprofit status by July 2022!
