Support Community Events at Flotsam Farm!

Flotsam Farm is an 8 acre property in the charming river valley of Sycamore, MO. We grow lots of food and try to live sustainably, but our broader focus is building and nurturing community! We dream of a future where human needs are met through cooperation and creativity, and nature is recognized as the sacred force that binds us all together. We are doing our part by hosting a variety of fun, inclusive events centered around music and art, good food, education, and nature! The weekly Sycamore Salon consistently draws 10 to 35 folks each week for good food, learning, expression, and friendship, and fun! Hundreds of people attend annual events, over 40 musical acts played at the farm in 2023, and around 50 potluck meals were shared!

The Flotsam Farm Community Building is central to what we do. Completed this past year (thanks to generous donations for the bathroom project!), it is a multi-functional gathering space, featuring a kitchenette, guest room, bathroom, music practice space and recording studio, kids' play-space, and a large collection of books and periodicals. This building houses the weekly Sycamore Salon, twice-monthly yoga classes, monthly sound healing sessions, and serves as the eating and sleeping space during our larger annual events. Our property also features a barn with stage and play area, camping areas, a sweat lodge, 20 some sculptures, and a walking path to Bryant Creek. We have a fleet of canoes for loan and a 15 passenger van that we regularly haul folks around in.

We (Eric Tumminia and Amelia LaMair) maintain this space, organize events, and support and promote related projects, in addition to making our own music and art, tending plants and animals, and raising our daughter! Your donations will help us dedicate our time to planning and putting on fun and interesting events, and to pay for maintenance, supplies, and other operational costs. All of Flotsam's activities are offered for free or by donation, so this annual fundraiser is essential to keeping things going. We are also seeking grant funding to expand and continue our projects, and your donations will help us demonstrate strong community support!

Planned improvements this year include re-building our website and creating print brochures, establishing a more defined parking area for events, improving accessibility to the community building, replacing our fence along the highway, organizing the lending library, and constructing a grain bin to be used as a healing arts space!

Our 2nd Annual Rock-a-Thon Fundraiser is a great example of our community's deep devotion and a great showcase of the many musicians who support and are supported by Flotsam Farm! Music will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday Feb. 17, and go until 10 a.m. on Sunday! Drop in any time or tune into the livestream on our Facebook page!

The Sycamore Salon is every Thursday at 5 p.m. Themes this year will include a seed swap, a screen printing demonstration, trivia night, a variety of interesting guest speakers, poetry reading, a weaving demonstration, song-sharing and sing-alongs, a book swap, a cooking class, a cob oven workshop, kickball, fishing and swimming trips, skill sharing, esoteric studies, game night, skit night, and many more!
