Support “WATA-KULU” – A Community Celebration for Peace, Culture, and Nature in Timor-Leste,

Hi friends,

We are a group of young people from Watabo’o, a small community in Baucau-Villa, Timor-Leste. We are organizing a very special event called “WATA-KULU” on August 16, 2025 to celebrate the 26th Anniversary of the Popular Consultation—the day our country voted for independence.

This event is more than a celebration. It is a time for our community to come together, honor our history, share our culture, protect our natural resources, and build a better future.

Last year, we held a similar event, and it was a big success! People from our village and nearby areas joined in. They were so happy and even asked us to continue it every year. That’s why we are working hard to make it happen again this year—but we need your support.

Why “WATA-KULU”?

“WATA-KULU” means “Coconut and Breadfruit” in our local language. These trees are part of our identity and played an important role in our country’s struggle for independence. They also represent the natural beauty and strength of our land.

Our Goals:

• Celebrate our National Independence Day together as a community.

• Encourage peace and unity in our village.

• Promote and sell local products like food, crafts, and handmade goods.

• Share knowledge about climate change, ocean protection, and human rights.

• Inspire our people to take care of our natural resources.

What We Will Do:

• Live Painting and murals with educational and patriotic messages about marine conservation and human rights,

• Music performances by local artists

• Community market (bazar) to showcase and sell local products

• Workshops and education about the environment, climate, and human rights

• Kids' activities like live painting

• Workshops for local fishermen

What Your Donation Will Help With:

• Renting sound systems and stage equipment

• Buying paint and art materials for the live painting and mural

• Setting up tents and tables for the community market

• Printing educational materials and banners

• Providing snacks and drinks for volunteers

• Helping local artists and performers with transport and small fees

• More people interested in visiting Watabo’o and Baucau-Villa
