Support Community Activities at Flotsam Farm!

Donation protected
It's time for our 3rd Annual 24 Hour Rock-a-Thon Fundraiser to support community activities at Flotsam Farm! From noon to noon on March 22-23, our friends and supporters will gather to play live music for 24 hours straight to demonstrate our love, commitment, talent, and utter insanity!

Many people are talking about what to do in the face of stark inequality, blatant hate and intolerance, ever-accelerating environmental degradation, and crumbling social infrastructure. The answer is to find and build community, and that is exactly what we’ve been up to! Flotsam Farm serves as a community hub for a diverse group of Ozarkers. Alongside many volunteers, project stewards Amelia LaMair and Eric Bogwalker facilitate cultural development by organizing fun, inclusive events that offer social connection, promote music and the arts, provide opportunities for lifelong learning, support health and wellness, and demonstrate resilience, sustainability, justice, and mutual aid. All of our events are offered for free or by donation.

Every Thursday at 5 pm, a crowd of friends, neighbors, and newcomers gathers for The Sycamore Salon, a potluck dinner followed by programs ranging from guest speakers, to seed swaps, documentaries, and discussions. This year we will also be deepening our community’s resilience through cooperative food production. We will work together to grow staple crops and process sorghum syrup and press cooking oil. Slacker Solstice is our signature annual event, a multi-day campout and celebration showcasing over 30 independent musical acts, and concluding with a float trip down Bryant Creek. Garloween is a Halloween and garlic planting celebration with music, costumes, a potluck meal, and kickball!

This year we need to upgrade our parking situation, water drainage, and bathroom facilities to accommodate increased use and protect our land. Our barnyard has become the de facto event parking lot, which causes ruts and damages the plant life, as well as creating a safety issue for children and animals using the area. Our access road could use a new layer of gravel, and we need additional gravel to create a designated parking area. Increased runoff from the community building’s roof and graywater outlet are causing considerable erosion and inconvenient muddy spots. We need to install guttering (and ideally a water catchment tank), and bury drainage pipes to reroute gray water and additional runoff. Finally, we need to build two new composting outhouses. Our humanure bucket system got quite overwhelmed during last year’s Slacker Solstice party, and we also need a bathroom down at the new Flotsam river access. This will make waste management much easier and more sanitary. We are also raising funds for monthly expenses and basic maintenance of the Community Building.

Gravel for access road and parking area $2200
