Support Access to Affordable Herbal Medicine
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Phoebe Tucker, a community and clinical herbalist in Ludlow, VT. As someone who lives rurally, I've found access to herbal medicine and quality care can be tough to come across - and, expensive! I'm raising funds to create a full apothecary of herbal medicine that can be offered to my local community on a sliding-scale basis (as in, free if you can't afford it!).
My apothecary space is currently open for me to see in-person clients - check out this link to my website to learn more about the space and my work. I would love this space to become even more amazing by being able to offer ABUNDANT and HIGH-QUALITY herbal medicine to people from all walks of life. Here's a little snapshot of the space right now:
I live in a town that's supported primarily by the tourist economy, and drive by large second-homes in the same day that I have a conversation with a friend who is struggling to find stable housing. I'd love to play an active part in facilitating some wealth redistribution by making sure that herbal medicine can be accessed by all, regardless of means.
Thank you for your support!
FAQ's
What is herbalism?
Herbalism is steeped in a long lineage of plant medicine teachers and healers. Essentially, it is using plants as medicine to help bring our bodies back into a state of balance. Also, herbs can be great for ailments that are too small to merit a trip to the doctor, but too big or uncomfortable to ignore- like a stomachache, headache, cramps or muscle pain, or a sore throat. Herbs are your friends!
What kind of herbal medicine will you be making?
I will be making various tea blends, tinctures, and glycerites (non-alcoholic versions of a tincture), as well as food-like medicine such as infused honey and local apple cider vinegar. I will also carry some topical supports such as a healing salve and muscle oil for pain relief.
Do you have a list of your herbal offerings?
My full list of herbal offerings is currently in the works, but you'll be the first to know! I'm basing my recipe list off of the incredible work done by Herbalista, based in Atlanta, GA. They have a really cool model and lots of free resources - check them out!
Where are you sourcing your herbs from?
It is my goal to source at least 90% of my herbs, oils, honey, and beeswax for salve from within New England, and hope that maybe one day I can reach 100%! I feel passionate about reducing the number of miles that I have things shipped to me, and also think there can be really powerful medicine made from herbs that are growing in similar environments to the one that I'm growing in, too.
I've partnered with a lot of different amazing Vermont farms (Wilson Farm, Hillside Botanicals, Foster Farm, etc.) in my early work making products to sell at farmer's markets, so already have great wholesale relationships established and ready to rock.
What will the $ you receive be used for?
Purchasing bulk herbs and medicine making supplies, bottles, storage materials, and apothecary upgrades to support our in-house medicine making capacities. While I'm in the process of applying for larger grants that will ensure the ongoing sustainability of this project, your donations will help support the necessary start-up expenses to get this work off the ground.
What's next? How do I stay involved?
Please stay in touch by signing up for my newsletter, Notes From Home, via this link. I send it out on a bi-weekly schedule, and there's lot of free, fun info about all things herbs + community!
