Help Us Rebuild the Columbus Free Press Website — And Keep Independent Journalism Alive
For over 55 years, the Columbus Free Press has been a voice for progressive, independent, and radical journalism — telling the stories others won’t, and amplifying voices that too often go unheard. Now, we’re at a pivotal moment, and we need your help.
Why now?
Back in 2013, our website, columbusfreepress.com, branched off from freepress.org to support our weekly print edition. But as the media landscape has evolved, so has our vision. It’s time to reunite these platforms into a single, dynamic new website that brings together our rich history of local, national, and global reporting in one powerful place.
Who’s building it?
Local creative minds and long-time collaborators, Robb and Erik Ebright, are working hard to design, program, and merge our websites — giving the Free Press a new digital home that honors our legacy and positions us for the future. These two have dedicated years of their time and talent to grassroots journalism, and now we want to ensure they are fairly compensated for their expertise and commitment.
What’s at stake?
This isn’t just a website update — it’s an investment in the future of independent media in Ohio and beyond. The new Columbus Free Press site will continue to spotlight local stories, expose injustice, and offer thoughtful analysis — free from corporate influence and censorship.
How you can help
Your donation directly supports Robb and Erik’s work, and helps us continue providing bold, fearless journalism. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit through the Columbus Institute for Contemporary Journalism, so your gift is tax-deductible.
Please give what you can — and share this with others who believe in the power of grassroots journalism. Every contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to a stronger Free Press for everyone.
