Hello! We are a group of graduate MPH students at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. We are all working on community-based projects and are seeking funding to support these projects and uplift our communities of interest. Please see below for details of our projects.

Kelly is creating an exhibition, The Rooted, using art to bring together scientists and community members to share knowledge and immigrant resources. By translating research and real stories of undocumented immigrants into powerful visual art, the exhibit aims to foster empathy, awareness, and connection. Artists will create pieces inspired by themes like resilience, identity, and family separation, helping to shed light on immigrant experiences. Your support will help fund artist materials and time to bring this vision to life.
Funding goal: $2,500

Sabriya is creating an art therapy intervention for Bangladeshi communities in New York City. This will involve incorporating Bengali traditional art into the intervention. She’s planning to recruit Bangladeshi immigrant parents and their (adult) children to determine if a culturally responsive art therapy program can improve mental health outcomes, the relationship between parent and child, and connection to culture. There are so few culturally responsive art therapy programs for Bangladeshi communities so she hopes to see if this intervention can help. She wants to compensate participants by giving them $25 gift cards at the start and another $25 gift card at the end of the intervention.
Funding goal: $500

The Bronx Dream Team (Laila, Sebastian, and Dalilah) will host a health fair in the Northeast Bronx to increase access to health and community resources for older adults by providing rapid health assessments, hosting educational workshops & recreational activities, and distributing food in collaboration with local organizations and healthcare providers. Williamsbridge-Olinville and Eastchester-Edenwald-Baychester are two Bronx neighborhoods with higher numbers of older adults racialized as Black and/or Latine, but extremely limited resources to support this community. This funding will go towards securing an event space, compensating our collaborators, and event supplies/advertising. Programming at the health fair will include fire safety with the FDNY, end of life care planning, connecting participants to primary care appointments, and more!
Funding goal: $6,000
