Rick Flair on 3!”
Those weren’t just words to us.
That was the moment we showed up for each other.
They echoed across football fields, baseball diamonds, huddles, and dugouts. It wasn’t just a chant — it was the trademark of my father when it came to coaching and to life.
Some of you know him as Richard Barker.
But to so many of us, he was — and always will be —
Coach Rick.
I’m writing this to give back to a man who has given all of himself for decades — his encouragement, his work ethic, and most of all, his time.
As most men know, asking for help is never easy. But just as Jesus had disciples, I believe a good leader knows when it’s time to lean on the people he’s poured into.
And right now, my dad is asking for help.
He will soon be undergoing open heart surgery. For the first time in his life, he won’t be able to coach, work, or be present for everyone the way he always is. This season will require him to do something that doesn’t come naturally to him:
Be still.
Rest.
Recover.
He is a hardworking man, but in order to come back stronger, he needs the space and support to focus fully on healing.
If Coach Rick has ever impacted your life, encouraged you, pushed you to be better, or shown up when you needed someone in your corner — we’re asking you to show up for him now.
Please consider donating to help make this transition from “always on the move” to focused recovery a little easier for him and our family.
We all have stories about my father. And I believe this community — the players, parents, friends, and families he’s coached along the way — know just how deeply he’s impacted so many lives.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for praying.
Thank you for giving.
Now…
Give me a Rick Flair on 3.
WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
