My name is Kareen Demchak and I am a Board Member and manage the Claysville Community Center. On behalf of the Board I have set up this GoFundMe for the purpose of saving the Community Center building. The building is very old. Many remember it as a movie theater and in 1952 the building was gifted to the Claysville Community Recreation Association for the purpose of providing a facility to benefit the community. Since its creation the Center has become an important and popular part of the community. The Center functions entirely through volunteer efforts and funds raised from rentals go to building operations and upkeep. During that time many repairs and band aids have been applied to the roof but we have come to the point that the roofing materials are years beyond their lifespan, there are leaks in several places and paint is peeling where dampness is starting to erode the walls. Damage from the leaking roof caused the wall the mural was painted on to separate and collapse. This was a $15,000 repair and took all the operating and contingency funds we had. The need is now desperate. As you all know well, the cost of construction materials has skyrocketed, especially since the pandemic; and the association does not have the funds needed to fix the roof. Please help us save this building.
