Dear Friends and Family,

I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart, asking for your support for my mother, Community Mother Clara Fleming, who has selflessly given so much to so many over the years. As many of you know, my grandfather passed away in March of 2022, leaving behind a home that my mother inherited. This was not something she ever expected, nor was she prepared to handle, especially from a distance and with her own health struggles.

In an effort to honor my grandfather and offer support to someone she thought was in need, my mom rented the home to a man who we considered to be a family friend. Over the past three years, however, this turned into a nightmare. The tenant repeatedly failed to pay rent, ignored communications, and neglected his responsibilities, leaving the home in deplorable conditions. The home doesn't even have water or electricity because he neglected to pay the bills.

Unfortunately, my mother, who was dealing with severe congestive heart failure at the time, was unable to manage these issues from afar. After a long and stressful process, the tenant has finally moved out, but the damage left behind is heartbreaking. The home is now infested with mold, roaches, and bugs, the furnace is destroyed, and there’s no water or electricity. In addition to the extensive repairs needed, we also have to account for cleaning, extermination, and the travel expenses for my family to travel back and forth to handle everything.

We estimate that restoring the house and getting it to a livable condition will cost at least $15,000. This is an overwhelming financial burden on my mother, and we’re asking for your help.
