Support Chrissy as she recovers from a motorcycle accident

Donation protected
My name is Ashley, and I am trying to raise some money to try and help my sister Christina.

Last week, Chrissy was in a motorcycle accident. The bike was clipped by a car changing lanes, and she was thrown from it. She doesn't remember much of the accident. The first thing she does remember was seeing a stranger with a first aid kit, trying to help stop the bleeding to her hand and wrists. After being in 3 separate hospitals, she was given x-rays and a CT scans. Thankfully, they did not see any broken bones or a concussion. Chrissy has 2nd and 3rd degree burns (and road rash) on both hands, forearms, left knee, and left shoulder. She also had a laceration to her left elbow which required stitches, and she is covered in bruises everywhere. The first hospital wrapped her arms (without cleaning them), prescribed her some pain meds, and discharged her a few hours later.

Chrissy went home that night in excruciating pain, tried her best to get some sleep, but was ultimately brought to another hospital the next afternoon. At this hospital, she started to go into shock, was brought back right away, and was finally given some medicine to help manage her pain. After some further tests, the wraps from the previous hospital were taken off (along with the wrap that the good samaritan had put on her wrist at the site of the accident) and she had her wounds cleaned. Given the severity of her wounds and the shock she was in, Chrissy was transferred to the ICU Burn Unit at the Loyola Medical Center.

For the last week, Chrissy has had to undergo daily wound cleanings and bandage changes, physical therapy, and has had 3 "twilight sedations" to deep clean her wounds and there is more to come. For the "twilight sedation," she is given a slight sedative so she doesn't feel any pain, but she is awake and aware of everything the doctors are doing (which as you can imagine, is quite a traumatic thing to experience). Chrissy is going to need at least one surgery to add skin grafts to the burns, but she has to wait until her body has healed enough to have a successful surgery. The days in the hospital are long, painful, and currently the doctor's do not have an estimated release date. It all depends on how well her body heals, and how well the surgeries will go. Meanwhile, her responsibilities outside of her hospital room still stand and continue to grow.

Chrissy had an almost life-ending accident and has had to deal with insurmountable pain for the last 2 weeks. During this whole ordeal (because she's in the ICU Burn Unit), she hasn't been able to see or hug her kids. She hasn't been able to comfort herself or them. She has only been able to communicate with them through video chat. As I'm sure one can imagine this has a massive impact on all of their lives. She is their morning, afternoon, and night. They are her reason for being. They miss their mom and anxiously await the day she can come home. It's safe to say that their lives have been flipped upside down. Unfortunately, their battle has just begun.

Chrissy's journey is very far from over. After she gets out of the hospital, she is going to have a long recovery process. Her job has been over the top accommodating and they are holding her position for her which is absolutely amazing. But still, She is going to be unable to return to work for a decent amount of time. She is going to need assistance around the house, physical therapy, help caring for her wounds, obviously taking care of the kids, and paying her bills until she is healed. Amongst a countless other tasks.

I am hoping that this will help lighten some of that burden. Christina has a very big heart! She is a single mom to 4 incredible kids. From sun up to sun down, she is busting her butt to make sure her kids have everything they need. I've never known her to put anything or anyone above her responsivities as a mother. No matter what the struggle, she finds a way and figures it out. Chrissy is there to help anyone who needs it. She goes above and beyond to care for everyone. She will feed a hungry belly, always offer a helping hand, and will go without just so someone else doesn't have to.

I know she doesn't want any hand outs or to admit that she needs the help, but she does. Her entire world is in crisis and she just keeps saying, "It's okay. Where there's a will, there's a way. I'll figure it out one way or another." So I decided I'm going to try to be that "will" or that "way" for her. The only goal here is to make sure Chrissy and her children don't lose their home and can maintain the most basic necessities. Any donation will help. Any amount is more than appreciated. Any and every single ounce of support will mean so much to her and her family.
