Support Chris & Jessica After Hurricane Helene Floods Home

My brother Chris Bohlman and his wife Jessica are coping with the flooding of their home in St. Petersburg, Florida, after Hurricane Helene. Prior to the storm, they safely evacuated with their two sons. When they returned, they found that the whole house had flooded with hazardous storm surge water. "It's the most horrific mess you can imagine," described Jessica. This was the case for almost every home in their entire neighborhood.

The Bohlman family is racing against the clock to get everything cleaned out and get the remediation company in to minimize further damage and the threat of mold. They've been so grateful for the help of many friends and coworkers during this process. They have lost carpets, most furniture and appliances, and many household items. In addition, some of the drywall, flooring, kitchen cabinets, and more need to be replaced. Most everything needs to be put into storage during restoration.

The Bohlmans said everything inside and out is affected. They do have power for shop vacs and AC to cut down on the heat, as they're working in 100 percent humidity in 90-degree weather. Jessica said, "The mess is just so overwhelming you aren't sure where to start. There's also calls to insurance, documenting everything, arranging childcare, returning to school and work, and tons of decisions."

Chris and Jessica are also dealing with the emotions associated with all the great need everywhere they look, including stories about loss of life. "God is faithful and has provided much, but it's still incredibly stressful," she said.

There are a lot of upfront and additional expenses associated with this process. The future is uncertain, and they are making many large costly decisions all at once.
