Support ChiaVa Moua's ALS Journey

Donation protected

To all of our friends & family,

As many of you have heard and now know, our dad, ChiaVa Moua, has been diagnosed with Bulbar ALS. This disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a type of ALS that affects the nerves, along with swallowing, speech, and breathing. Bulbar ALS is progressive and, unfortunately, terminal. The doctors first told us that this was a possible diagnosis on his 63rd birthday, 6/12/24. A month later, on July 11, 2024, we received the devastating news that it is no longer a possible diagnosis but that ALS is his official diagnosis. Since then, my dad has thought through his long list of life goals, plans, and dreams. We were all forced to accept his new reality and while trying to fight back tears, our dad asked for a family trip. So we all planned, gathered everything we had, and within 3 weeks, all 18 of us were on a flight to Orlando, FL in August 2024. After we got back, we decided to throw our dad a celebratory reunion. He saw it as one last big dinner/party with all of his loved ones.
Another dream of his is to finally touch the soils he once grew up on in Thailand, pick exotic fruits, and be able to relive old memories while making new ones.

We are setting this up to hopefully receive help financially. Not only for this dream of his, but medical bills, medication, and renovations we are currently working on to make his home more accessible and safe. This includes extending a bathroom, creating a bedroom large enough to fit all of his future needs as his terminal disease progresses, and purchasing the necessities he will be needing to be mobile/comfortable.

He has a rough journey ahead of him but has remained extremely positive through it all. Without his positivity, we would not be able to move past the life changing news. We are continuing to smile, laugh, eat all of his favorite foods, and simply just talking so we can listen to the voice we are already beginning to miss. We appreciate every second, minute, and day with our dad knowing that gambling with time is impossible.

Lastly, we want to thank everyone who has reached out and who continue to show love to our dad. Thank you in advance for the donations and/or sharing our dad’s journey.

“This is my life now. I’m not sad so don’t be sad. I’ll be okay.”
-Our incredibly strong dad, ChiaVa Moua
