Cheyenne's Journey: Raising Awareness and Support

Cheyenne, a brave 9-year-old, is currently facing a challenging journey. For the past nine years, she has battled gastrointestinal issues, visited multiple specialists and underwent countless tests and procedures. Recently, an MRI revealed a large cyst in her sacral spinal canal, which is either a Tarlov or arachnoid cyst. This cyst is affecting her nerves, and she is preparing for surgery to address this condition.

Cheyenne's surgery is scheduled for August 30th at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. Dr. Bonfield will perform the procedure, which involves making a large incision, removing a strip of bone, and tying off the cyst. While this surgery offers hope, there is no guarantee that it will alleviate all of her symptoms. The recovery process will be challenging, and she will need to remain homebound until her follow-up appointment on September 16th. At that time, they will assess her progress and provide the next steps.

Her family will be traveling to Nashville on August 28th for a pre-op appointment on the 29th with hopes of returning home on September 1st. Due to the large incision and the long 5-hour drive home, they may need to stop along the way and get a hotel room to ensure her comfort.

In light of their situation, a GoFundMe page has been set-up for Cheyenne’s family to help with medical expenses, travel, and post-operative care, as well as an Amazon wish list for items Cheyenne will need during her recovery and some activities to pass the time at home. Any support, whether through donations or sharing their story, would mean the world to them.

The family aims to raise awareness about Tarlov cysts, a condition primarily affecting women aged 30-60. As there is no colorful awareness ribbon for this condition, Tarlov cysts fall under the rare disease ribbon, represented by a zebra—the symbol of the uniqueness of each individual’s medical condition.

Thank you for your love, support, and prayers as Cheyenne and her family navigate this journey. Together, they hope to raise awareness about Tarlov cysts and bring hope to Cheyenne and others facing similar challenges.
