Che’s Fundraiser—A Family in Crisis
Dear friends and kind-hearted supporters,
This past Sunday—on what should have been a joyful Mother’s Day—my dearest friend Che and her family suffered a devastating tragedy. While the whole family was celebrating Mother’s Day, a sudden and unexpected fire engulfed their home while Che and her husband had to make a run for the store. Che’s kids and mother-in-law were home at the time; Che’s son heard a loud explosion. He was in his room downstairs in the basement acting on instinct; he rushed upstairs and found the house already consumed by flames. In a moment of courage, he broke down his grandmother’s door and escorted her to safety—just in time. His actions saved her life.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and out of respect for Che and her family, we kindly ask that no one press for details at this time. What we do know is several homes around the area had also gone up in flames, with the majority of unknown cause, but Che’s home was hit the hardest. Though it was a rented property, it was more than just a house—it was the home of their family.
Now, with no renter’s insurance and the uncertainty of what financial responsibilities might fall on her, Che is left picking up the pieces of a life that was shattered in a matter of minutes. She has had to take time off work, overwhelmed with fear, grief, and uncertainty.
The most painful truth is that they lost everything—their clothing, furniture, food, televisions, personal belongings, and irreplaceable memories. Every room was either burned, drenched, or destroyed by smoke. In the chaos, the family nearly lost their beloved cat, who had been trapped in their daughter’s room. At first, they believed the cat had perished in the fire. But later, as they searched through the ruins, they heard a faint cry. Che’s sister-in-law, Amy, heroically performed CPR and managed to revive the cat. It did recover at a pet hospital and is now resting at a friend's house.
Che and her family are now staying with relatives after a short stay in a hotel, trying to rebuild their lives from nothing. Only a handful of items were salvaged—everything else is gone. As she walked away from the charred remains of her home for the last time, Che shed quiet tears, saying goodbye not just to her house but to years of hard work, sacrifice, and cherished memories.
What makes this even more heartbreaking is the string of tragedies Che has endured in just a few short months. Right after Thanksgiving, she suffered the loss of her pregnancy. Then, on Christmas, she said goodbye to her beloved brother, who passed away due to illness. She started the New Year planning a funeral, burdened with grief and expenses. And now—just as she thought she might finally catch her breath—she has lost her home.
If you know Che, you know her heart. She’s the kind of person who gives without question, helps others in their darkest moments, supports her family with unwavering strength, and never asks for anything in return. She is a hardworking mother, a generous friend, and a true light in the lives of those around her.
Today, I am asking—on behalf of Che and her family—for your help.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Whether it’s a monetary donation, food, clothing, household supplies, or help with housing, your support will go directly toward helping Che and her family begin again.
This GoFundMe was created to help them take the first steps toward rebuilding their lives and finding a new place to call home. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or Che directly.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion, your generosity, and your prayers. May you and your loved ones continue to be safe, healthy, and blessed.
With gratitude,
