Who We Are

We are a married couple who live in Chicago and have been together for over 12 years. Originally from Maryland (Charlie) and Wisconsin (Katlin), we fell in love at the famous Chicago sketch comedy incubator Groupon and married in October of 2019. We are both social media and content marketing writers working for non-profits. We’re also members of the board at the non-profit Bughouse Theater and we are active in the Chicago comedy scene. We’re also loyal friends, doting cat parents, and we want to become the loving family of an adopted child!

Why We Want to Adopt

Because of concerns with Katlin’s future health and the potential pitfalls of having a biological child, we’ve chosen not to have biological children. While that isn’t in the cards for us, we’ve always wanted to start a family and raise a child who will (hopefully) embrace how nerdy we are and partake in our curiosity toward life.

Adoption has touched us throughout our lives and feels like the way that makes the most sense to fulfill our shared dream of starting a family. It’s one of our deepest desires to provide a loving and ultra-supportive family and home for a child who needs us. Adoption is the path that will help us provide a kind and safe upbringing to a child who may not have been born into circumstances that allowed for it.

Our hope is to adopt an infant so that we can be at their side throughout all of life’s milestones, but we are staying open to other possibilities.

Why We Need Your Help

We bought a condo in the past two years to ensure the security of a long-term home for our family. While we’re able to budget for our mortgage, keep a comfortable lifestyle, and stash away some savings, the world we currently live in is expensive. Having a child is expensive… so is adopting one!

The typical cost for working with an adoption agency, doing a home visit, and following through all the legal processes runs between 40-50 thousand dollars. We need the support of our friends, family, and community to help reduce our out of pockets costs. If we do receive more than the cost of adoption, any amount beyond those costs will be split between preparing our home for our new child and setting up a savings account in their name.
