Support Charleston Artists: Fund Contexture Show
Donation protected
Hi! I am Rachel Briggs of Second Life Supply. I provide free opportunities for local Charleston artists to show their work by way of pop-up art shows. They never have to worry about paying application or wall fees, and I refuse to take a commission from pieces sold during my shows. I just want to uplift the community that I care so much about! I pay out-of-pocket for all expenses, but these shows have gotten so big that I can't afford them anymore, so I am hoping to find help to make sure I can continue to give my community the best possible opportunities, especially since this Contexture show is now an officially sanctioned Piccolo Spoleto event! Awesome, right??
All shows are based on sustainability as well. Accepted artists get together for a White Elephant supply swap. They must bring a bag or box of gently used or unwanted art supplies to the swap. Whatever they end up with, they must use to create pieces for the subsequent show. They do not have to pay for new supplies unless they want to! For this upcoming show, I will also feature local fashion designers who will show pieces made from restaurant waste materials!
Alongside these artists, I will feature performances. Puppeteer Bernie Beauchamp has made a puppet with his new-to-him supplies and will have it dance to the new Hot Mustard album. You have never seen puppetry like this before! Penny O'Connor will be giving free live alternative haircuts to willing volunteers, and Concept Rxch will perform a live set as well!
I have vowed to never charge patrons an entry fee, and all drinks are free. I believe art should be accessible, seen, and enjoyed by everyone!
Shafer Powell, a local artist and musician, is creating a zine-style bulletin to serve as an event schedule as well. Each person entering the show will receive one at the door, which means everyone leaves with a free piece of art!
Because this show is for the community and by the community, I am asking for help to ensure this event is the best it can be for everyone involved!
The goal amount will go towards covering the following fees:
- venue rental fee
- zine printing fee
- paying the zine artist for their hard work
- liquor liability insurance
- alcohol for the bar
- thrifted drinking glasses (no single-use plastic will be utilized)
- snacks
- installation supplies
- paying the door guy
- GoFundMe fees
Because I vow to never profit off of these shows, any extra I receive will go to my non-profit of choice, We Are Family.
Thanks for reading all of this! I hope to see y'all at the show!
