Ceyani Danae Pratt was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. She had a warm and charming way about her, which made her very lovable. When Ceyani set out to elevate herself, she would plan everything, even down to the smallest detail. She was very determined to excel in school, even in the midst of her newfound illness, which is something we all admired about her. She is missed deeply.
She attended North Carolina A&T State University as a biology major and had aspirations of becoming a travel nurse. While attending NCA&T in her junior year, Ceyani found out she had a rare cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma. It was caused by an unforeseen genetic mutation, and it was stage 4 metastatic. Many things changed in her life at that moment. She would take a semester off to move back home to Philadelphia and receive treatment at the Children’s Hospital. There was one thing that never changed, and that was her drive.
Ceyani fought hard to beat this disease, and she even rang the bell in November ‘24. However, the cancer came back in one month. We were given the news that this was a terminal cancer and that she would eventually succumb to this disease. Despite all the bad news, Ceyani still worked very hard to graduate and stay motivated.
She would've graduated in December 2025. NCA&T will grant her a posthumous degree as she has worked so hard for it.
She passed away on August 27, 2025. This tragic loss has been felt immensely by family and friends. Our goal is to start a foundation to help Biology students suffering from cancer. This was one of Ceyani’s final wishes.
Her family is seeking assistance to attend the commencement ceremony in North Carolina to receive her degree. That includes but is not limited to airfare and lodging, and funding towards scholarship endowment. Any efforts to donate would be much appreciated.
