Cate's Car seats for Kids has been established in memory of Dr. Catherine Lydia Edgell, "Dr. Cate" who was an internal medicine physician and hospitalist in Portland, OR. Born in Marquette, MI, Dr. Cate attended the University of Michigan and Wayne State Medical School prior to heading out west. During her training, she became keenly aware of the need to ensure that her patients had the resources they needed upon discharge to achieve their best health. There is a dire need for specialized car seats for low birth weight babies in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This charity is working with the Upper Peninsula Health Plan, Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions and Community Action Marquette to distribute car seats to parents who cannot afford them. Each car seat costs more than $100, and the babies cannot go home until the special car seat is obtained. We were able to purchase and distribute 3 low birth weight car seats after our first in-person fundraiser.
