My name is Caroline Cummings, and I'm a Scout from Northville's Troop 903. I'm currently working on achieving the rank of Eagle, the highest rank attainable by a Scout and the culmination of one's Scouting Journey. I've been a Scout for over 5 years, beginning as a founding member of Troop 903G, home to 903's first female members.
A significant requirement for this rank is the Eagle Scout Service Project, where a Scout shows leadership while planning and executing a service project benefiting their community. My Eagle Project is renovating Maybury Farm's Turkey Hutch. In the Turkey Hutch, I'll be installing structures that improve the turkeys’ ability to practice natural behaviors such as roosting through roosting bar, a nest box, and a network of natural limb beams and climbing structures throughout both the interior and exterior of the hutch. The nest box will double as a space for the rabbits in the winter. I'll also be improving the exterior by building a stronger door, and replacing and painting the outdoor space, making it easier for the public to see into it. These renovations will be done before Farm Fest, and we'll all enjoy watching the turkeys grow up in their shiny new home!
I'm beyond excited to be working with the Farm, as they've been a significant part of my life for almost the past year. At the start of last summer, I began volunteering as a farmhand in the barn. Over the past months, every chance I was free I would volunteer a shift, and I just fell in love with the animals and environment - but most of all, the absolutely incredible community of people at the farm. When time came to think about who to work with as the beneficiary for my Eagle Project, I could think of no better place.
Thank you for your time! Even if you can't donate, make sure to stop by at the farm to check out the Turkey Hutch!
