Support Carolina Fontoura-Alzaga: A Hard Working, Visionary
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and art lovers,
For many years, Caro has poured her time, money, energy, and soul into her art, creating two stunning series of socio-political themed lighting sculptures, Connect and Lucienne, that illuminate the possibility of a better world.
Behind these stellar creations is a story of perseverance, struggle, and burnout. After years of working tirelessly to share her work with the world, Caro has reached a crossroads. The financial challenges of being an independent artist, combined with the physical and mental toll of constantly pushing forward with the hard labor of constructing her projects (often in hazardous conditions), with little time for rest and recuperation, have left her exhausted and overwhelmed.
After putting a tremendous amount of money, labor, and passion into her recent spectacular project, Lucienne, the work did not get the traction she had hoped for, and she’s depleted in every way possible and questioning what’s next.
On top of these challenges, Caro’s been impacted by the fires in Los Angeles (though not as directly or severely as others) which has delayed work she was counting on, making it extremely difficult to keep her head above water financially. She’s also been living in a warehouse set-up that’s not adequate for healthy, peaceful living, and she’d benefit greatly from being able to move out of her current situation and find a safe and cozy temporary place to plan her next moves.
Caro is at a point where she needs some real time to recharge and regroup, but without the support she needs, taking that step forward feels impossible.
So, we’re asking for your help to support Caro during this critical time in her life and career. With your donations, Caro can focus on recovering her health — both physically and mentally — and work towards the next chapter in her journey- whether that’s a new creative project or a new path, entirely. This $10,000 fund will help cover her living expenses, care costs, and the resources she needs to navigate her transition, along with paying down the debt incurred investing in the Lucienne series. It will allow her to take the necessary time to heal from burnout and detrimental work and living conditions, without the constant pressure of survival.
YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS BECAUSE:
-ART IS VITAL: Artists and their work are often undervalued, yet they are the heart of our communities. Caro has endlessly inspired with her creative vision and hard work, knowing the importance of sharing beauty and possibility with the world.
-BURNOUT IS REAL: The demands of being a self-sustaining artist, particularly one who works so passionately and tirelessly, can take a huge toll on mental and physical health. Caro needs space to rest and recalibrate before she can continue to share her gifts with the world.
-WE ALL BENEFIT FROM COMMUNITY SUPPORT: This funding is more than just financial support—it’s an investment in Caro’s future, her growth, and her ability to peacefully choose what will come next.
Thank you so very much for your consideration and support of our very deserving friend and community member, Caro. Every donation is deeply appreciated, whether $5 or more, and will be met with an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
I hope you’ll join me in envisioning Caro getting the support she needs and finally being able to shift out of a life of constant hustle, and into a life of prolonged peace, comfort, and pleasure. For the sake of peace, itself, and also so she can move forward into the future continuing to make the profound impact she has always made on our community.
Thank you for believing in Caro and in the importance of creators and the power of art. Together, we can help our friend heal, grow, and continue to light up the world.
LOVE,
Lindsay
