A Tribute to Love, Loss, and the Strength to Carry On – Help Carol and Talia Stay in Their Home.
Hello, dear friends and kind strangers.
I’m writing to you with a heart full of both grief and hope, on behalf of someone incredibly special—my beautiful, resilient friend Carol Por —and in memory of her beloved fiancé, Lane Shepard, a man whose light was taken far too soon.
Several months ago, Lane lost the job he had dedicated 15 years of his life to, after suffering a debilitating stroke. Instead of support or gratitude, he was met with silence. No severance, no farewell—just a box of belongings mailed to him, and a door closed.
Lane had poured his heart into his work and into caring for his family. Without health insurance, with bills mounting and the weight of the world on his shoulders, his health—and spirit—began to deteriorate. Carol and her daughter Talia did everything they could to lift him back up. But the toll was too heavy. Lane passed away suddenly due to his illness, leaving behind a shattered family and a life full of unfinished dreams.
Lane was one of the kindest, most selfless men I’ve ever known. His love for Carol was profound, pure, and unwavering. Whether dancing in the kitchen or fishing on quiet afternoons, their connection was something rare and beautiful. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose.
He poured his skills and passion into their home—repairing, renovating, creating a place of warmth and safety for his girls. Carol, with her love for plants, turned their yard into a vibrant garden of exotic fruits and vegetables—a true self-sustaining sanctuary with chickens and fresh eggs daily too. It was their shared dream.
Now, that dream hangs in the balance.
Because they weren’t yet legally married, Carol and Talia are facing a heartbreaking and complex web of financial and legal burdens. Lane’s passing left them with debt, no safety net, and the looming threat of losing the home they built together—the only home Talia has ever known.
Carol is one of the strongest people I know. She’s never asked for anything. Always working, always giving. But now, she needs our help. And so, I’ve created this GoFundMe to help lighten her load.
Our hope is simple: to raise enough funds so Carol and Talia can stay in their home, continue growing their garden, and heal in the space Lane so lovingly shaped for them. This way his memory will be there with them forever.
Even the smallest donation means the world. $1, a kind word, or a share—everything helps. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing beside a family navigating unimaginable grief.
These funds will be used to help pay for their home to keep from going into foreclosure, medical bills, car payments , credit card debts that are behind now; and food so they can survive until Carol is able to return to work and maintain the life they worked so hard to build.
With love and gratitude,
