Why This Cause Matters To Me:

Life sometimes presents experiences that reshape our perspectives and souls. Twelve years ago, my time working at Vienping Children’s Home in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was one such experience. I arrived at the orphanage feeling beaten up by life, yet left months later with a heart healed and a deep appreciation for the immense dedication of caregivers.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to return. The familiar bright pink building and the warm sound of "sawadee kha" (hello in Thai) echoing through the hallway brought back good memories. However, this time around, the orphanage was home to significantly more children and teenagers. There were also 35 new babies, many with trauma and physical and mental disabilities, taken care of by only two caregivers. The situation these caregivers and babies face still boggles my mind.

As a primary caregiver for Apollo, Maverick, and Sora, I’m mentally and emotionally challenged daily, even with the privilege of a strong support system. I know the reality of caregiving resonates with many of you, too—whether it's for children, fur babies, aging relatives, or friends and neighbors needing extra support. I've heard from you about the joys, as well as the real physical, mental, and emotional challenges of this role. Your dedication is inspiring, and thank you for everything you do!

Here's how you can help. Vienping Children’s Home receives government funding for essential operations such as food, clothing, and facility maintenance. However, they consistently face a shortfall in funding for staffing. The orphanage director shared the urgent need for three additional full-time caregivers dedicated to the 35 babies.

The annual salary for one caregiver is 120,000 Thai Baht ($3,520 USD), bringing our total fundraising goal to 360,000 Thai Baht (~$11,000 USD) to support one year’s salary for three additional caregivers.
