Support Carán Sahel and Mother Escaping Abuse

A mother's biggest heartbreak is to have to make the choice to choose their child and their safety over the ideal of a nuclear, single family unit. I regret to inform you that this is our story. My son and myself are survivors of DV, emotional, and financial abuse. On July 10th, I decided, through the strength God & my support system has granted us, that that would be the last time Carán Sahel had to witness his father’s erratic, volatile behavior. After reaching out to other individuals who had as much proximity to him as we did, the absolute worst part has been hearing their accounts of his abuse which span to equally & worse degrees.

I moved my son and myself out this past January 2024, but the violence has only escalated as we sought to establish our own autonomy & reclaim our dignity. I have not been able to work consistently due to his tactics. Right now we need overall support. This month I have barely worked due to having opened litigation & spending two weeks at the department of social services. We have to get a new car insurance policy, car repairs, gas & tolls, childcare so I don’t have to keep bringing the baby to court with me. Carán Sahel needs size-appropriate clothing items as he continues to surge in growth. We are also behind on utility and internet bills. I will be missing more full-time work opportunities due to continuing filing violations on our order of protection which takes an entire work day at family court and we have another violation to file. We are also behind on rent two months due to all of this.

I know a lot of folk don’t know how to react to this type of situation so by all means feel free to reach out with questions. This has been the hardest time of our lives and silence denotes complicity in this day and age where information is abundant. Trust me when I say, I’d rather not be asking for financial support right now.
