Since 4 October, a portion of Camden United’s funds has been completely inaccessible. This happened in the same month that we marked the 3rd anniversary of our founder Abdulaziz Munye’s passing, making this period particularly challenging for the club.

One of our banking providers, MyGuava (Guavapay), had its services temporarily suspended until further notice by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). We were initially told that withdrawals would still be possible, but more than six weeks later we still have no access to these funds and no timeline for when this will be resolved. Despite repeated contact, the only updates we have been given are that our case has been escalated, with no clear communication, no confirmed solution and no timeframe for release. This has directly affected our ability to cover essential running costs.

While we work to recover these funds through the formal process through the Financial Ombudsman and the FCA, we are asking our community, the same community that built Camden United, to stand with us again.

Why This Matters

Abdulaziz founded Camden United in 2019 following the murders of our friends in Camden to bring people together, stop young lives being lost to violence and give young people belonging and purpose through football. What started as a response to tragedy has grown into a club that gives young people opportunity, structure and hope.

What We Have Built

Over the past six years, Camden United has grown into a leading community football club in Camden alongside a growing youth development programme. Hundreds of people have played for us, and hundreds more have attended our finals and community events. Our work has impacted young people, families and communities across the borough:

Football Pathway and Community Club

• Our men’s team is the highest ranked club in Camden and competes in the Middlesex Premier Division, one promotion away from becoming semi professional.

• Many of our players have progressed into higher level semi professional teams, development squads and football careers.

• Camden United has become a genuine community hub and support network for players and supporters.

• Former players have created their own teams, businesses and community projects which we have supported and helped establish.

• Staff and volunteers have gone on to roles in semi professional clubs.

Youth Leadership, Mentoring and Employability

• The Munye League, created in memory of Abdulaziz, brings together teams from across Camden and now includes leadership, mentoring and personal development.

• Young people move into roles such as coaching, volunteering, youth leadership and paid project work. • In September, our partnership with Google UK, Camden Giving and Young Camden Foundation brought more than three hundred young people to Google HQ for a youth led AI summit delivered by fifteen young people from Camden.

Why We Are Asking for Help

While a portion of our funds remains temporarily inaccessible, we are launching a campaign to raise £10,000. These funds will cover essential immediate running costs including pitch hire, equipment and core programme delivery. This will allow us to maintain full operations while we work to recover our money. Your support will help us stay on a strong footing, protect our training sessions and ensure young people do not lose the safe spaces that have been built for them.
