PLEASE support student protesters at Cal State Channel Islands who, this past spring, bravely responded to the growing global movement in solidarity with Palestine and lead a solidarity encampment for 6 weeks on our college campus!
-BACKGROUND-
Right now, many of these students are experiencing significant hardships following a series of events that began on their campus on May 13th with a peaceful protest at Central Mall (now deemed "Intifada Mall" by the students).
Despite remaining peaceful throughout the entire duration of the protest (the protest was identified as peaceful by campus President Richard Yao himself) and engaging in regular negotiations meetings with campus administration, students, faculty, staff, and community members were subjected to constant harassment, retaliation, surveillance.
CSUCI campus administrators sent in law enforcement 42 days later who threatened "less lethal violence" and ejected them from campus entirely, resulting in terror and trauma among students, faculty, staff, and community members alike.
This incredibly powerful protest and the waves of change it brought to our school and community would not have been possible without the dedication, commitment, and sacrifice from our students. As much as possible, we want to help with the mental, physical, and financial hardships as the Fall semester is approaching. The fight for a Free Palestine is not over!
Students' specific financial needs are as follows:
- Parking tickets (excessive and irregular tickets were issued on students' vehicles throughout the protest)
- Housing costs (students either lost or quit jobs to fully commit to the many demands required to run a 6-week long, 24/7 protest)
- Essential bills (seeking off-campus mental health services, and other essential bills that were impacted by the event)
This fundraiser is led by the "Student for Justice in Palestine" Student Board. Thank you for your generous donations!
