On Thursday 9th September 2021 Caitlin and Mason's lives were changed forever when their husband and father passed away after a 14 month hard fought battle with Stage 4 cancer.
2020 started on a high for the newly married couple with the birth of Mason in January and Corey was working hard to complete his carpentry apprenticeship and subsequently starting his own business.
In July 2020, Corey started feeling pretty average and much more tired than normal. Corey didn't have much of an appetite and had lost about 8kgs but also had a severely bloated stomach. Starting to get worried, Corey and Caitlin went to the hospital to get to the bottom of what was going on and Corey was admitted to hospital. After 8 days in hospital they got the news no-one wants to hear - Corey had Stage 4 bowel cancer which has spread to his abdomen and what they thought was bloating was actually fluid - 12 litres of fluid.
Corey began undergoing chemotherapy very quickly after this. Corey continued receiving chemotherapy fortnightly for the remainder of the year. Initially it seemed to be making a difference but by January 2021 the decision was made for the chemotherapy to be stopped and in April, Corey started on a drug trial through the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. This made a big difference to Corey's energy levels and he was even able to get back into a bit of work. Unfortunately by August Corey became unwell again and it was discovered that the trial had also stopped working.
Corey did everything he could to stay with Caitlin and Corey. He was a wonderful husband, fantastic father and incredible son, brother and friend. The world is certainly a darker place without him in it!!
Caitlin will make sure that Mason knows how amazing his father was and how much he loved Mason.
Caitlin has decided to take the rest of this year off work to focus on herself and Mason. Caitlin and Mason have enough to think about at this time without having to worry about finances. One thing we can do for them is helping them out financially. Big or small, everything is appreciated and will take some of the weight off Caitlin's shoulders and allow her to focus on what is really important - the gorgeous Mason!
We would appreciate your help to make the burden a little lighter for their journey over the coming weeks and months.
Rest in Peace Corey xx
