My name is Roman Grunbaum, and I’m currently a junior in high school. I’ve been raised with an awareness that I live in one of the most racially segregated cities in the United States, and only a mile away from the 53212 zip code which has one of the highest poverty rates in the state. As I’ve grown older, I’ve thought more about the inequity between myself and the children living in the 53212. This has spurred me to find a way to try to affect a positive change.
With this goal in mind, I’ve created BuildingBridge FC – a youth soccer program that pairs positive coaching and belonging with on-field learning. We teach game fundamentals, soccer IQ and life skills through on-field practice and play, while including inspirational talks from guest adult mentors. As a varsity soccer goalie, it also allows me to leverage a sport I love to create connection with children who may need it.
To bring this to program to life, I am honored to work with Henry Tyson, Superintendent of St. Marcus Schools. Mr. Tyson has dedicated his life to providing access to high-quality education in Milwaukee’s inner city. During Winter 2026, we will hold indoor camps at St. Marcus’ Harambee Campus, and in Summer 2026, we will hold camps outdoors in Whitefish Bay.
I’ve established this BuildingBridge FC Go Fund Me to support the purchase of the following camp supplies for participating children, including:
- Soccer balls for each child to take with them at camp completion (40 total).
- Shin guards and socks for use at camps / gifted to school for future use (40).
- Healthy snacks for distribution during camps.
- BuildingBridge FC t-shifts for each child to take with them at camp completion.
Any additional funds received will be gifted to St. Marcus for essential school supplies for the children’s 2026-27 school year.
Thank you for your consideration of donation – I couldn’t appreciate it more!
