Hi there! My name is Brynn and I am a junior at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in psychology and currently on the pre-medicine track, with aspirations of being a surgeon.
As part of my journey to medical school, I have found an incredible community with Global Medical Training at UT. Global Medical Training is an organization for undergraduate students that focuses on guiding members through their journey into healthcare professions, building a community of future-focused and disciplined individuals, and most importantly… charity and volunteer work! At the heart of GMT and all of its members is a conviction to contribute to the world around us and use our privileges to the benefit of the less fortunate. In addition to serving on campus and throughout Austin, GMT provides students an opportunity to travel to less fortunate countries and provide healthcare and service at clinics partnered with GMT.
I am very excited to share that I have been selected to attend a trip to the Dominican Republic this coming May! This trip will not only provide an exceptional opportunity to continue my medical experience, but most importantly, allow me to use my talents and abilities to support an impoverished community. Another amazing part of GMT’s international trips comes from the fundraising aspect, in which we have been able to stock these locations pharmacies entirely for months. Due to the inaccessibility to healthcare many of these countries face, programs such as GMT allow communities to receive esteemed medical treatment and medications, free of cost! I am required to contribute $1300 which includes meals, housing, registration, and helps to pay the physicians and nurses serving in DR clinics full-time. Additionally, I am obligated to cover my own flight which ranges from $600-800. My goal is set at $3,000 as any additional funds I am able to obtain go directly to stocking the pharmacy and clinical supplies. If you are able, I would greatly appreciate any donations or support as I embark on this exciting journey. Thank you so much for your time and support!
