On February 13, 2025, Brooklynn Hicks was doing what any 23-year-old should be able to do—driving home from a concert with a friend. That night, heavy rain flooded parts of Lubbock. As Brooklynn drove, she encountered a deep puddle that caused her car to stall. After exiting the vehicle to seek safety, she stepped into an area of the standing water that unknowingly carried an electric current from a power source beneath the roadway. As a result, Brooklynn was electrocuted and went into cardiac arrest. A bystander stopped and pulled her from the water, performing CPR until EMS arrived.

Since Brooklynn was without oxygen for an extended period, her injuries are catastrophic and life-altering. She is currently being treated in the Burn ICU at UMC in Lubbock. Before this devastating accident, Brooklynn was working towards finishing her degree at Texas Tech. She is one of the most caring, loving, and gracious people you could ever meet—someone who always puts others before herself. Brooklynn is an avid Texas Tech fan, and enjoys attending concerts, spending time with family, and working as a babysitter.

Her family, who live outside of Amarillo, are staying in Lubbock to remain by her side. As they focus on Brooklynn’s recovery, they are facing mounting expenses for lodging, meals, and medical care.
