Support Brittany and Logan's Journey to Parenthood
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Alana and I have created this GoFundMe to help my best friends, Brittany and Logan Sohns, start their new journey with surrogacy to help bring their miracle bundle of joy into the world! I am privileged to tell you their story and humbly ask you to consider donating to this fund.
Brittany and Logan met while working at Kwik Trip in Waconia, Minnesota in 2014. What started out as a wonderful friendship blossomed into something so much more. They started dating in 2015 and moved in together a year and a half later. Brittany and Logan both share their love of dogs, and in that first year adopted their first fur baby, Zoey, who was followed shortly after by their second pup, Daisy.
In 2020, Brittany and Logan purchased their first home with hopes to work towards building their life together. Brittany and Logan were eager to get married and start a family, but life had other plans, and their journey has been anything but easy. At the time, Brittany had been dealing with several health issues and was undergoing many appointments and tests to figure out what was going on. In 2021, Brittany was diagnosed with Lupus and Antiphospholipid Syndrome (an autoimmune blood clotting disorder). Through several follow up appointments, they learned that they would have difficulty conceiving, and this would put Brittany at a much higher risk for pregnancy complications and recurrent miscarriages or stillbirth. Due to these circumstances, they decided to sooner than planned have a small and intimate wedding at Lake Minnetonka Regional Park in October 2021.
In January of 2022, they began their fertility journey with the guidance of many specialized doctors, as they knew it would be a long and difficult journey that would take more time than planned and have a significant impact on Brittany's health. After attempting to conceive without success for 8 months, they were referred to a fertility specialist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. At the time, Brittany was struggling with frequent Lupus flare-ups, and they were told they would be unable to start fertility treatment until her Lupus was more well-controlled and “in remission”. This process involved many appointments, trialing of several medications, and took almost a whole year before they were cleared to pursue fertility treatment. Throughout this waiting period to start treatment, they still had been unable to conceive.
In May of 2023, while waiting to be able to make more progress towards bringing a bundle of joy into the world, they added their final (maybe) fur baby to their family, Millie.
A few months later, they were cleared to start fertility treatment. Brittany and Logan endured 6 rounds of various fertility treatments, involving many oral and injectable medications, tests and monitoring, procedures, and appointments. Throughout these treatments, Brittany and Logan suffered two heartbreaking miscarriages, which they believe were related to her health conditions.
During fertility treatment, Brittany’s health again began to decline, and her Lupus flare-ups continued to increase in frequency and intensity. There are only a select few medications used to treat Lupus that are safe during fertility treatment and pregnancy, all of which they have tried with limited and short success, even at maximum dosages. With such high hopes and the dream of becoming a mother, Brittany has endured daily pain and sickness while postponing more extensive treatment for Lupus, as there were no other safe options at the time if they wanted to continue fertility treatment. The medications that would be required pose significant risks for birth defects and miscarriage.
After trying various methods without success to grow their family, Brittany and Logan remain hopeful that their chance of becoming parents still exists. However, with Brittany’s health continuing to decline, they have recently been informed that it is unsafe to continue pursuing fertility treatment, and Brittany will be unable to successfully carry a child. As a result, egg retrieval and surrogacy are the only option for Brittany and Logan to have a biological child. Additionally, they have learned that due to the uncontrolled state of her Lupus, her egg supply has significantly and more rapidly declined.
Unfortunately, given the state of Brittany’s health and quickly diminishing egg supply, time is of the essence. Brittany and Logan are soon to complete final testing before hopefully completing an egg retrieval by the end of summer. The goal is to complete this as soon as possible so Brittany can begin new medication and treatment and begin to start feeling better in hopes for a better quality of life. Once the retrieval is complete, their embryos will be frozen in preparation for surrogacy.
The total funds requested here amount to $150,000. This is the minimum
required for all treatments related to egg retrieval and surrogacy, with the total cost likely being closer to $200,000. Brittany’s work benefits offer $15,000 towards surrogacy, but the rest will need to be paid out of pocket. Brittany and Logan have already spoken with and chosen a surrogacy agency and are working to complete the egg retrieval so they can be placed on the list to match with a surrogate.
Brittany and Logan are an amazing couple who deserve nothing more than to be parents. Brittany is a Registered Nurse at a Children’s hospital, and Logan is completing his Master’s in Psychology to be a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. As you can see, they dedicate their lives to helping others, and now it’s their turn to receive help to make this possible. If you are able, please kindly consider donating as much or as little as you can to help this family. Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for any help to get them one step closer to bringing their little bundle of joy home!
