Hi, I’m Phoebe Barash, and I’m reaching out to you to support the Bristol Peace Garden, a garden that has been on the Bristol Town green for more than 35 years. The design was created by students from Bristol Elementary School with the help of a landscape architect. Initial funding came from businesses, grants and individual donors. The labor was done by volunteer community members.
The garden is divided into seven segments, one for each continent in the world. The students envisioned a place where people could sit, chat, play just as they hoped people of the world would do, talk to each other across continents regardless of differences. Every month over 100 families enjoy the Peace Garden; children, parents, grandparents and caregivers as well as local and out of town folks who wander through to admire its unfolding beauty.
Unfortunately the timbers that form each continent have deteriorated over the garden's 35 years. We thus far raised $20,000 in our community to dismantle and restore each section. However, the project and costs are considerably more than anticipated and we need additional funds.
Area youth continue to be involved and have been instrumental in the reconstruction. They have been instrumental in transplanting perennials, planting bulbs as well as the deconstruction process. Young volunteers include students in early elementary grades through high school seniors and everything in between. It has been an incredible project and the community is waiting anxiously for the Peace Garden to be completed.
Your dollars support payment of our project managers and the purchase and milling of Black Locust timbers necessary for this project, as they will last for many decades.
Thank you for your donation. Please consider visiting the Bristol Peace Garden to see our work in progress and particularly to enjoy the peace serenity once the project is completed, which we hope will be in time for the next gardening season.
