Our brother, Brian Rosendahl, is at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL recovering from an emergency leg surgery.
On Friday, June 21st on his way to move and start a new adventure in Fort Myers, Brian started to have issues walking and was very sick. He was rushed to HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers where the doctors realized his diabetes had ravaged his legs. His blood pressure had dropped significantly, and his lower calf muscle had turned reddish purple.
After multiple tests, it was found that an infection, unbeknownst to us, had made its way up Brian’s left leg and into his bloodstream – to save his life, his doctors decided that the only option was to remove his lower leg. He was then transferred to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers where doctors performed a below the knee amputation of his left leg.
Brian is currently in recovery at Gulf Coast Medical Center. Despite the unimaginable amount of pain and reality of losing a limb, he remains in great spirits. The fact that Brian is even alive is truly a miracle and he and our family couldn’t be more thankful.
There is a great amount of unknown and uncertainty as Brian continues his long road to recovery. He will be out of work for several months, as he undergoes extensive rehabilitation to get him closer to using a prosthetic leg (6-12 months away). While he is in rehab, we have to work on making his home “Trailer Swift” - wheelchair accessible.
The medical expenses continue to pile up and there is no timetable for his return to work. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated as Brian tries to navigate what his ‘new normal’ looks like.
Our family would like to thank everyone who has reached out offering their prayers and support during this difficult time. The generosity and love felt by friends and family are truly overwhelming and we could not be more thankful.
