Support Breastfeeding Families in Scotland

Donation protected
We are Breastfeeding Support Scotland, a small, volunteer-led organisation that provides free, face-to-face and online breastfeeding support for families in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to ensure that every parent has access to reliable, non-judgmental, and evidence-based breastfeeding support when they need it.

Our Story
Our organisation was founded by four friends who met online during the COVID-19 pandemic. All of us are trained peer supporters with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM), and we saw an urgent need for accessible breastfeeding support, especially during the challenging times of lockdown.

What began as a simple idea to provide online support has since grown into a network that includes:
  • Four weekly in-person support groups across Glasgow
  • Antenatal education sessions for expectant parents
  • A growing Facebook community
  • An Older Babies group addressing the unique challenges of breastfeeding past the newborn stage
  • A team of 20+ trained peer supporters, all volunteers

Our services are always free and accessible because we believe every parent should have access to the support they need, regardless of their financial situation.

How We’ll Use Your Donations
We rely on donations to keep our services running smoothly and to expand our reach. Here’s how the funds will be used:

Fund a New Support Group in Clarkston and Newton Mearns
We are working to establish a new weekly support group in Clarkston and Newton Mearns. These areas currently have no local breastfeeding support, and we see that the need is high! Venue fees: £550 for the first 12 months. Volunteer training: £90 to train new peer supporters for the group.
The new groups are essential to ensure that families have access to free, local support within their own communities.

Tea Fund
Donations will also help us provide refreshments at our support groups to create a welcoming environment for attendees.

Training More Peer Supporters
We are always looking to expand our team of peer supporters. Donations will help cover the costs of training, resources, and ongoing support for our volunteers.

Running our Facebook Group
Our facebook group provides the opportuity for online support from our trained Peer Supporters and Breastfeeding Counsellors, as well as a community of other breastfeeding parents. This ensures that families across Scotland in areas affected by the reduction in both inpatient and community services can access a welcoming, friendly community. The group is run on a voluntary basis and requires lots of time and effort from the team. We are always keen to find more volunteers to help keep the group running. The cost to train one peer supporter is £45.

General Running Costs
Donations will help cover general operational costs, including printed materials, insurance, and outreach efforts to ensure we’re reaching the families who need us.

Why Your Support Matters
The demand for breastfeeding support is high, and we are committed to maintaining and expanding our services to meet this need. We rely on donations to cover operational costs and to ensure that our services remain free and accessible to all families, regardless of their financial situation.

Every Contribution Counts
Your support, no matter the size, will directly help us continue providing free, reliable breastfeeding support to families across Glasgow and beyond. We’re working to build a sustainable future for the families we support, and your donation will make that possible.

Thank you for considering a contribution to our cause.

Lots of love,
The Breastfeeding Support Scotland Team
