Our Uncle Bobby — Bob Carroll — has been fighting pancreatic cancer for almost eight years. He had never spent a night in the hospital until 2018, when his life changed forever. Since then, he has shown more strength, courage, and heart than anyone I’ve ever known.

Despite years of chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries, he continued working, only taking unpaid days off when he absolutely had to. He was hooked to a chemo pump for three days at a time and still went to work while it pumped into his system. He pushed through unimaginable pain and exhaustion to keep life as normal as possible and to support his fiancée, our family, and his friends. Even while battling this aggressive disease, he always showed up for others. That’s just who he is.

But now, he needs us. He is the last person to ask for help, yet the first one to show up at your door when you need it.

Years of treatment have taken a serious toll on his body. Uncle Bobby has suffered heart problems, kidney failure, and diabetes as a result of the chemo he has endured. His pancreatic cancer has recently spread to his lungs, causing pleural effusion—fluid around his lungs that makes it nearly impossible for him to breathe. He now has to have this fluid drained every few days, and even between procedures he struggles to walk to the bathroom without severe shortness of breath. He had tubes surgically implanted into his left lung this past week and is scheduled to have the same procedure on his right lung next week, allowing him to drain the fluid at home instead of going to the hospital twice a week.

He has been confined to his recliner with an oxygen tank for a month and can no longer work. He was also forced to stop radiation treatments because the fluid buildup prevented him from lying flat. The medical bills, travel costs, and basic living expenses are becoming overwhelming at a time when he should be focused on rest, comfort, and healing.

Our uncle has spent his whole life giving to others—his time, his support, his kindness. Now, more than ever, he needs that love and support in return.
