Support Bobby and Miriam's Twin Adoption
Donation protected

This GoFundMe is for Bobby and Miriam Courtney, who are busy preparing for the adoption of twins to be born soon! Bobby is in my men's small group and I've gotten to know him over many months during their fertility and adoption process. Raising children in this world is hard enough, and more so for those seeking to adopt. Through difficult answers from doctors and lawyers, I have personally witnessed Bobby's focus on God and His plan for his family-to-be. Please pray for them and consider donating as you read their words about their journey:
"July 16th will forever be the day that our lives changed with a simple phone call asking if we were interested in adopting a baby.
Rewind a little… Bobby and I always knew we wanted to have children and adopt children. It was a desire that God placed in both our hearts and fostered through the years. We had a lot of pain initially when pregnancy just didn’t happen for us, but we had hopes that God would provide answers through science. We jumped through a lot of medical hoops thinking we were about to crack the code on pregnancy, but it just didn’t happen. Finally, two years ago we sat down with a fertility doctor who said that we had “unexplained infertility”. We were pretty devastated that there was no answer to our inability to get pregnant. However, we knew God placed adoption on our hearts for a reason so we held on to our hope that God was the Creator and we needed to trust Him in this process.
Fast forward to 2023, we started getting serious about adoption. We learned more about the finances surrounding adoption as well as the lifestyle(home studies, fostering, etc.) that go into it. We knew that this was our goal so we decided to financially free ourselves up for the future to be able to move forward with adoption by selling most of our stuff and moving into a 5th wheel RV in spring of 2024. We said we would give it two years and if we loved it, we might even stay longer… but little did we know, God had a greater plan.
This brings me back to July 16th 2024 when we got a call from some dear friends who told us about a mother who wished to give up her baby to a good home and we were the couple that came to mind. We prayed about it, excitedly said “yes” and started to pursue lawyers and knowledge about the process of independent adoption. Within a week, we found a wonderful lawyer who explained everything to us. And on July 28th, we got to meet the biological mom for the first time.
We were so nervous, as was she, but it truly was such a beautiful moment. We reflect on it often how God just sent us all this immense peace that we were in the midst of His will. We all cried together as we noted that this was right, this was God’s plan.
On August 5th 2024, we were able to set up an ultrasound to see the baby and hear the heart beat for the first time. We were pretty shocked to learn that there were TWINS! Joy like no other filled that room, my face hurt from smiling as I got to see both babies little faces, hands, hearts, and their little kicks on the monitor. They were none too shy and revealed that Baby A was a boy and Baby B was a girl.
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly…” John 10:10
Abundant life indeed! We were thrilled and quickly updated our family and friends of the good news. This also brought about some new concerns like making room in our RV for 2 babies, getting 2 car seats, the higher risk of the babies being in the NICU, day care costs for 2…. The list went on. Even while refiguring everything for two babies, we were met with an overflow of support and reminders that if God is for us, who can be against us. We’ve been asked so many times how others can help so with some encouragement, we are putting out our story as we walk forward in adoption of these twins. We will be sharing updates as they come, but have so many unknowns that come with this process. We are compiling a list of ways you can specifically pray and of financial goals that are coming up.
Prayers:
For the biological mom’s heart as she walks through this, her safety in delivery, her transportation to appointments, and her future walk with Jesus.
For the babies' health as they grow, their delivery, and the doctor’s and nurses who will care for them.
For Bobby and I, as we prepare to be parents, prepare our home and finances, and as we take time off of work to walk through this process and bond with our babies when they come.
We are specifically hoping that the babies will be delivered at Memorial Hermann Katy.
For Miriam to find some work that she can do from home to help with the finances of not getting paid during her FMLA to be home with the babies for 12 weeks.
Financial Goals:
The legal fees associated with the adoption process we are currently going through is estimated to be around $6,000 and includes the adoption attorney fees, home study, and lawyers representing the babies.
The hospital stay is still an unknown cost for us and a hard one because of the babies being twins and some other factors… they will likely be in the NICU. We will update everyone as they are born and as we find out the finances behind our own hospital stay so that we can be with the babies from the moment of delivery.
The cost of Miriam staying home to bond with the babies. This is really important to us that she get a chance to have the full 12 weeks of FMLA (unpaid) offered through her work. We are hopeful she can find something to do from home in that time to compensate, but are still actively praying and looking for an answer to those financial needs that her salary meets."
The Courtneys and their extended family and friends thank you for your prayers and donations for their adoption of the twins.
