Blake’s Story

At the end of March 2025, I received a kidney transplant after nearly 5 years of dialysis.

Fast forward to the end of July of this year. I started out on a trip to Wisconsin to visit family I hadn’t seen since I began dialysis - it really kept me tied down. By the second day into the trip, I realized something was wrong. After stays in two different hospitals during August and early September, I wound up back at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. After several procedures and tests, I learned that my transplanted kidney failed through no fault of my own - it was diseased to begin with. On September 8th, I had surgery to remove it.

I now need several weeks of physical and occupational therapy to regain strength and learn how to walk again after 3 weeks of being bedridden.

While insurance covers part of the cost, it doesn’t cover it all. And it doesn’t cover travel and accommodations for my family members to travel for my support.

That’s why I’m asking for your support. I have gone through my short-term savings, and maxed out credit cards. My family is as supportive as they can be, but some are starting to tap into their retirement accounts for me.

All donations will go to help to cover insurance deductibles and copays, and non-reimbursable expenses such as caregiver travel costs.
