Our Mission
The 2020 derecho caused extensive damage to Bever Park, destroying much of its mature tree canopy. In its wake, invasive species have rapidly taken hold, outcompeting native plants and threatening the long-term health of the park’s forested areas.
In the spirit of stewardship, our mission is to restore the biodiversity and ecological balance of Bever Park—creating a healthier, more resilient environment for future generations.
Restoration begins with proper land preparation. Following guidance from the Iowa DNR, we are implementing targeted grazing and other proven practices to remove invasive species. By partnering with a “Goats on the Go” affiliate, we will clear a test area, giving newly planted native trees the opportunity to establish and thrive.
Each acre requires three staggered grazings to shock and mitigate aggressive invasives like oriental bittersweet, which climb into the canopy and choke out mature trees. The cost per grazing is $1,800, and our goal is to expand this effort across the park’s forested areas.
Your support will directly fund this woodland restoration work and help us scale a sustainable solution for long-term impact.
Thank you for your generosity and commitment to caring for Bever Park.
Sharing this fundraiser is also meaningful way to help.
