Please read this Message from the Babin Family:
Dear Friends and Community,
This morning, we faced a heartbreaking event as our family workshop was tragically lost to a fire. We are immensely thankful that everyone is safe, though we are deeply grieved by the loss of our beloved cat, Renesmee, who was dearly cherished by our daughter, Danis.
Danis is currently in North Bay visiting a friend. She had been living in the upstairs part of the workshop, which we had lovingly converted into a small apartment for her and Renesmee. We were in the process of expanding our home through the Jordan's Principle program to create a space that could accommodate our entire family together.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the firefighters and our community for their incredible support in containing the blaze. Your kindness and solidarity mean the world to us.
The fire claimed many of our tools, supplies, and materials essential for cultural revitalization, including those for crafting ceremony pipes, drums, regalia, and more. While the loss is immense, we are choosing to see this as an opportunity for change and rebuilding—not just of our material things, but of ourselves as individuals and as a family.
Thank you all for your time, care, and support during this difficult period. Your strength and compassion give us hope and the courage to move forward.
With appreciation and love,
The Babin Family
