In 2025, Beacon averaged 45 new households enrolling each month in our pantry programs through June 30, reflecting a 50% increase over 2024. In July, we experienced an even greater increased demand as key assistance programs (such as the Medicaid Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program, in which Beacon was a service provider) were defunded and other vital food assistance programs (such as SNAP/EBT) had their budgets cut dramatically.
Beacon currently provides weekly food assistance for over 1,700 families each month.
We are now in the process of shifting operations to better serve the evident and ever-increasing need for food security in Madison and surrounding counties. We have secured a retail space in downtown Marshall, which will soon house our thrift store, allowing us to expand pantry program operations into the 2400 sf space that currently houses thrift in our present facility.
This transition will allow for a client choice shopping space more than 3.5x the size of the size of the current space AND the creation of a dedicated indoor waiting area, providing shelter from the elements for those seeking food assistance at Beacon.
Beacon is determined to continue providing weekly groceries to families as long as we are able, particularly because so many other assistance programs are being so drastically reduced. Yet, the increased need in our region has put a strain on partners that have reliably helped to keep our shelves have remained well-stocked in the past. Beacon is now having to seek out new sources, which has led to a dramatically increased food cost for our organization.
We would be honored if you would join us in our work to uplift our neighbors and ensure cabinets and bellies in our community remain full, especially as temperatures begin to drop.
All funds raised will go to purchase food for our new, expanded pantry space, ensuring our neighbors have the opportunity to choose from a wide selection of healthy foods that align with their household’s dietary needs and cultural preferences.
Beacon has only been able to continue to grow and thrive, and thus continue to better serve our community, because of the support we receive from beautiful people like you!
