Help Me Come Home After 22 Years
My name is Barry Emmett
II, and I have spent more than 22 years in prison.
For over two decades, I have lived with physical pain, medical neglect, loss, and separation from the people I love. Every single day, I have fought to survive a system that, in many ways, has tried to break me. But I never gave up on myself, my education, or my hope that one day I might have a chance to come home.
I entered prison in 2005. During my arrest, I suffered serious injuries that continue to affect me to this day, including permanent shoulder damage and injuries from a police K-9 attack that left lifelong scarring. Over the years, basic medical care has often been difficult to access, including treatment for ongoing pain and even necessities such as prescription glasses.
Despite everything, I made a choice: I would not let prison define me.
Instead of giving up, I devoted my life to education, rehabilitation, and self-improvement. Beginning in 2009, I immersed myself in legal studies, business, natural science, and health education. Through years of discipline and determination, I pursued advanced studies and remained committed to building a future where I could positively contribute to society.
I have spent years preparing for the day I can rebuild my life with dignity, purpose, and service to others.
But coming home after more than two decades is not simple.
I need help securing legal advocacy, medical care, reentry support, housing stability, transportation, clothing, identification documents, and the basic necessities required to successfully transition back into society. Funds raised will also help support ongoing efforts to review my case and ensure I have the support needed to rebuild my life after so many years lost.
No one can survive 22 years alone.
If my story moves you, I humbly ask for your support—whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing my story. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings me one step closer to hope, healing, and the possibility of finally coming home.
Thank you for believing that people deserve a second chance and that rehabilitation should matter.
With gratitude,
Barry Emmett II
