On December 16th, I received the life-changing diagnosis of acute Myeloid Leukemia. The news was overwhelming, and I quickly realized that my journey through treatment would mean stepping away from work for at least the next six months. As someone who has spent years as a career waitress, I’ve always taken pride in supporting myself and my mother. Unfortunately, my monthly social security isn’t enough to cover our basic expenses, and without the ability to work, we’re facing a difficult financial road ahead.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help us afford essentials like food, utilities, insurance, and rent. The reality of my profession is that if I’m not working, I don’t get paid. This has made the situation even more challenging, especially as I focus on my health and supporting my mom during this uncertain time. Your support will help us keep a roof over our heads and ensure we have what we need to get through the months ahead.
I’m incredibly grateful to have regular customers who feel more like friends, and I’m setting up this fund for those of you who have reached out and asked how you can help. If you’re able, I would truly appreciate it if you could share this with other Johannes customers. Unlike my breast cancer diagnosis five years ago, this cancer is much more confusing and uncertain. I don’t have all the answers about my future, but knowing I have a community behind me gives me hope. Thank you for your kindness, support, and for standing with us during this difficult time.
