Hi, we are Violet, Jason, and Cashew Baldwin. Violet works in the film industry, bringing cool and innovative VFX to life on the big screen. Jason is a writer who was in the midst of fundraising for his animated pilot, Detective Palooka, before putting it on hold to focus on rebuilding our lives. Cashew, our pride and joy, is the sweetest and most perfect pup you could ever meet. We were proud residents of Altadena, living next to the beautiful Eaton Canyon, which we cherished as an extension of our home.
Eaton Canyon was more than a home to us; it was our backyard sanctuary. Every morning, we’d walk Cashew through its trails, coffee cups in hand, grateful for the beauty and routine that surrounded us. It’s heartbreaking to share that a devastating fire tore through the canyon overnight, leaving destruction in its wake.
On Tuesday, January 7th, Los Angeles faced a fierce windstorm. Violet worked from home that day, sensing it wasn’t safe to drive. That decision turned out to be a blessing. When the Eaton Fire broke out at 6:30pm, we had only minutes to gather essentials before evacuating at 6:45pm. With no power to open our metal gate, Jason’s car was trapped. Thankfully, Violet’s car was accessible, allowing us to evacuate safely together with Cashew.
While our rental home was not completely destroyed, it remains within the fire’s perimeter and under active evacuation warnings. We cannot yet return to assess the full extent of the damage or loss, but we know our lives have been deeply disrupted. We are profoundly aware that we are luckier than many in our community, friends and neighbors who have lost so much more, and we hold them in our hearts as we all work to rebuild.
We’ve managed to secure temporary accommodations, but we need your help to return to a sense or normalcy. Your generous contributions will go toward repairing and replacing essential items, restoring what we can, and moving forward. Any unused proceeds will be donated to fire recovery efforts in our community of Altadena to support others facing similar challenges.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
