BADD (Brothers Against Drug Deaths) was founded in memory of Theris Lee “TC” Coats II, who died in custody in San Francisco on March 21, 2025—another tragic loss in a system that fails people struggling with addiction and mental illness. His story is not unique. It echoes across Black and underserved communities, where barriers to care and support are often insurmountable.
At BADD, we’re turning grief into action. We are launching a bold initiative—Theris' Law—to amend HIPAA and allow trusted family members legal authority to intervene when a loved one is spiraling, ensuring they receive treatment before it's too late.
Your support helps us advocate for this critical policy change while building a grassroots support network that includes housing, peer mentorship, reentry services, and culturally competent care.
Help us honor lives lost by protecting those still fighting. Together, we can reform systems, restore dignity, and save lives.
