**On Thursday 4/25/19, sweet Baby Weylin passed away. Please continue to be in prayer for Matt, Kelly, and Soren as they process this difficult loss. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and been in prayer! I am so happy that we not only met, but exceeded our fundraising goal! Feel free to continue to donate if you'd like as there will likely be medical bills, a memorial, and more time off of work.**
Baby Weylin is only 3 weeks old and fighting the biggest fight.
Weylin has been diagnosed with Meningitis of the brain.
Weylin is at Children's Hospital in Milkwaukee with his Mom (Kelly) and Dad (Matthew). Weylin also has a big brother, Soren (age 2).
If you can, please donate. We don't want his mom and dad to have to worry about money while he's in the hospital. The goal is that all their financial needs are met so they can focus on their sweet little guy.
Most recent information from his mom:
His MRI results are as follows; he has had multiple strokes (on top of the seizures) that have done moderate to severe damage to his brain on both sides. His left cortex (hemisphere) more-so than the right. Moderate damage to his cerebellum. What this means long term is so difficult to say, as the brain is so vast and massively complex, especially for a 3 week old baby. Anything could happen or change.
The biggest (positive) thing to come out of the results is that there currently (that we know of) is no damage done to the most crucial part of his development, function, and recovery which is the brain stem. For recovery purposes, it is the highway (so to speak) from the body to the brain to get those antibiotics, cells, and antibodies up in there to fight the meningitis/bacteria. The goal is to prevent any damage to this part and keep those vessels open.
Another possibility this evening is him receiving donated blood to up his platelet count. Platelets are cells in the body that help the body scab and stop bleeding, and his count has dropped. Since there is bleeding to the brain, it is crucial this count stays up.
What will happen tomorrow is a second MRI to make sure no more strokes are occurring and to check on the bleeding.
His infection has been pinpointed and confirmed as the Strep Group B, so he is now on just one antibiotic designated specifically for that bacteria. It will continue to fight this infection for weeks. Now that it has been confirmed as SGB this means it is NOT contagious, so staff is no longer forced to wear gowns and gloves.
Other news is that his color is a lot better. He is now taking breast milk through a tube as of yesterday and they upped the intake as of this afternoon. This Mama has been stockpiling as much as she can to assure he gets the amount he needs and has the supply on hand. The antibodies will hopefully help along with everything else.
As for Weylin, himself, his personality is there despite being sedated. His toes curl, fingers move, and sometimes, when he doesn't like how he is positioned, he will certainly show it with his vitals in a crabby manner.
We celebrate tiny victories and try to hold onto optimism and be strong for Weylin. This kid is proving to have a warrior's spirit!
Tonight, I will be going home to shower and rest before coming back. It is important to be as healthy as I can to give Weylin the energy and the best love and milk that he can have.
Thank you everyone for your continued love and support. These times are very exhausting and scary, but I stay optimistic and inspired by Weylin, the amazing staff at Children's Hospital, and of course family and friends.
