Tiny Heart, Big Fight: Help Malix-Kai Get to His Next Lifesaving Surgery

About Us

Hello, I’m Amanda, a single mom to three incredible kids — my eldest Maddax (11), my sweet Aria Addison (9 months), and my youngest fighter, Malix-Kai (2). I’ve spent the last seven years on Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability (SAID), managing chronic pain and health challenges that have grown worse since Malix-Kai was born. Today, I’m asking for your help to get my son to a critical heart procedure in Edmonton.

Our Story

Malix-Kai entered the world on September 26, 2022, diagnosed at birth with Tetralogy of Fallot, a life-threatening congenital heart defect. In his first weeks, he faced:

- 1 week old: First open-heart surgery.
- 8 weeks old: Second open-heart surgery.
- 10 cardiac catheterizations in Saskatchewan for monitoring and minor repairs.

Each major intervention — stent placements or corrective surgeries — requires travel nearly 1,000 km to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. While Canada’s healthcare covers the procedures themselves, none of the travel, lodging, vehicle expenses, or meals are funded.

Challenges We’ve Overcome

Our family has endured a mountain of obstacles:

- Car Accident: On the way to Malix-Kai’s second open-heart surgery, our car was totaled by a semi-truck, leaving us stranded and terrified.
- Faulty Replacement Vehicle: Pressured into a lemon by a dealership, the replacement car has constant mechanical failures, making every trip a gamble with life and safety.
- My Disability & Health: I’ve been on SAID for 7 years, and my health has declined sharply — chronic spinal issues, pain, and limited mobility — yet I’m the sole caregiver for three children.
- Aria’s Diagnosis: In early 2024, baby Aria was born with craniosynostosis, requiring her own major skull surgery at just one month old, adding to our physical, emotional, and financial strain.
- Single Parenting: After separating from Malix-Kai’s father, I now juggle hospital stays, surgeries, recovery, and daily life all on my own.
- Medical Dismissals: Most recently, Malix-Kai was dismissed four times at the ER despite severe dehydration and alarming symptoms, nearly costing him his life before advocates at the hospital finally intervened.

Through every emergency, surgery, and heartbreak, this little boy’s courage and smile have carried us forward.

Why We Need Your Help Now

Malix-Kai has another lifesaving heart procedure approaching in May 2025, and we often receive just days’ notice. We must be ready to travel to Edmonton at a moment’s notice, but our only vehicle is unsafe for the journey.

All procedural costs are covered, but these critical expenses are not:

- Travel: Gas, parking, wear-and-tear on our car.
- Lodging: Hotel stays near the hospital during surgeries and recovery.
- Meals: Food on the road and in Edmonton.
- Vehicle Repairs: Urgent work to make our car safe for a 1,000 km round trip.
- Family Essentials: Diapers, formula, and everyday needs for three children during hospital stays.

Breakdown of Fundraising Goal (Total: $7,000)

- $2,500 – Urgent vehicle repairs or replacement
- $1,200 – Gas, meals & parking
- $1,500 – Hotel stays
- $800 – Emergency medical supplies & unforeseen costs
- $1,000 – Diapers, formula, family essentials

How You Can Help

1. Donate any amount — every dollar moves us closer to safety and surgery.
2. Share our story with your network, community groups, and social media.
3. Send prayers and positive thoughts — your encouragement sustains us.

Final Appeal

No family should face a child’s life-or-death battle alone. Malix-Kai’s heart is tiny, but his fight is huge. With your support, we can ensure he reaches the next critical surgery safely and continues his courageous journey.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
