It breaks my heart to share that my Aunt Della has passed away. She was the most selfless person I’ve ever known—always there for our family, no matter what she had going on. She gave her time, love, and kindness without hesitation.
Aunt Della was born in Texas and moved to Michigan in her teenage years. At just 16, she married Eleaser Garza, and together they built a beautiful family. She was a devoted mother to her four children: Eleasar Garza, Valerie Garza, Elliot Garza, and Rodney Garza. More than anything, she valued keeping her family together and spoke often about the importance of unity.
She was one of 15 Duncan siblings and was extremely close to each of them. Family meant everything to her. Everyone knew her as an incredible cook, and I will always cherish the memories of her teaching me how to make different dishes. The one that stuck with me the most was tortillas. I remember being in my great-grandma’s kitchen as Aunt Della patiently showed me how to make them. I always wanted to make them for her one day, but I never got the chance.
Beyond her kindness and devotion, Aunt Della had an amazing sense of humor. She had a way of making everyone laugh, whether it was with her quick wit, funny stories, or playful teasing. No matter the situation, she could bring joy to those around her, and her laughter was contagious.
Her loyalty to her family was unwavering, and her faith was unshakable. She was a devoted Christian, and her prayers could bring peace to anyone. No matter what was happening in my life, seeing her always lifted my spirits.
Tragically, on March 20, she passed away. My family and I want to give her the beautiful farewell she deserves. We are asking for donations to help cover her funeral expenses so we can honor her life in the way she truly deserves. Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean the world to us. And if you can’t donate financially, we ask that you please keep our family in your prayers during this difficult time.
Thank you, and God bless.
