I never thought I’d be writing this sentence down but… our sister and best friend, Audra Ashley, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
On August 28th, Audra went in for her routine mammogram. A few days later, she was called back in for further follow-up. She thought nothing of this because in previous years she always needed a recheck due to dense areas and cysts.
On the 9th of September, she had another mammogram and sonogram. Audra asked the doctor, “Are they cysts?” The doctor said, “No, they are 2 solid masses and one of them is in your armpit in a lymph node.” This didn’t seem real to any of us. The following day, both spots were sent off for biopsy.
On September 13th, she received the dreaded call. “You tested positive for breast cancer.” After further testing, she was diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3, triple-negative breast cancer, not hormone-related and very aggressive.
Audra starts a very aggressive chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment on October 9th and will continue for six months. She is seeking treatment at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore but is very fortunate to undergo her treatments in Easton. After the six months and depending on further testing, she will make a decision on surgery, either a double mastectomy or lumpectomy. She is scheduled for a PET scan on Sept. 30th.
There are so many unknowns, which is the hardest part to get through. We are unsure if Audra will be able to work and for how long, the trips back and forth to Baltimore, the future surgery, and all the medical expenses that come with the unexpected. We are thankful and blessed to have such a huge village of family and friends. Your support and prayers mean everything to our family during this difficult period.
Audra and Danny are so grateful for all the outreach, love, and support thus far. Everyone wants to know how they can help or what they can do and all we know what to say is pray.
God is on the throne and in control and we will Praise His Holy Name.
