My name is Calleecia Myers, and I’m based in New Jersey. Like many Jamaicans living abroad, I’ve been heartbroken and horrified watching the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa across our beloved island — especially in my hometown of Ashton District, Westmoreland, where I was born and raised before migrating to the United States.

Ashton District is more than just where I’m from — it’s home. It’s where I learned the values of hard work, community, and compassion. It’s where my family and friends still live, and where countless memories were made. Seeing the place that shaped me now in ruins has been deeply painful.

Hurricane Melissa tore through Ashton, leaving behind collapsed houses, destroyed crops, flooded roads, and families struggling without food, water, or shelter. Many residents — including elders, children, and single-parent households — have lost everything.

This GoFundMe was created to bring both immediate relief and long-term support to those most impacted. Every dollar will be used strategically and transparently to ensure help reaches where it’s needed most.

How the Funds Will Be Used:

• Emergency Relief Supplies: Food, clean drinking water, hygiene products, baby supplies, and first aid materials.

• Home Essentials: Mattresses, bedding, cooking supplies, clothing, and basic furnishings for displaced families.

• Home Repairs & Rebuilding: Contribution toward materials (such as zinc sheets, lumber, and cement) to assist families in rebuilding damaged or destroyed homes.

• Local Coordination & Delivery: Funds will also support local volunteers and transportation to safely deliver aid to affected residents in Ashton District and surrounding areas.

I am working directly with trusted local contacts and community leaders in Ashton to ensure funds and supplies reach those in greatest need, prioritizing transparency and accountability every step of the way.
